Thing 12

How simple!! I created my own customized search and added it along with the ability to search the web to my blog.

Once again, thank you so much for this learning opportunity.

Thing 11

LibraryThing is very easy to use and I invited several friends. I wonder if someone has created a similar site for individuals who collect CD's and DVD's.

Right now I am working on my MAED online. Online classes demand daily participation and very involved writing assignments, so right now chron.com and OK magazine are eye candy. Under normal circumstances I love to read and see how this site would be great for sharing with my friends who live in other parts of the country.

Thing 10

Animation and being able to add personal logos, comic strips, etc. to any of our papers or other online communication makes our work more friendly. Communicating online can be flat without opportunity to demonstrate emotion through pictures or art.

I have downloaded Sweet IM and now need to learn how to access the smiley faces to add to my emails.

Thing 9

I especially enjoyed Technorati and found it to be the easiest to navigate. I guess I would say that Google Blog Search is confusing to me because I cannot tell if I am making progress with it or not.

For some reason Internet Explorer could not display feedster.com, so I will try that again on another day. Syndic8 is interesting. I am looking for a category of blogs that discuss universities and online doctoral programs. Topix was reader friendly and is setup pretty much with the same content that I have included on both my Yahoo and Google pages.

More Thing 8

I like the idea of the RSS feed and news reader and am working through how to display those on my blog. This is an area where my learning style needs a step by step demonstration.

Using an RSS feed in my professional life might be useful if we used websites for communicating information (vs. email).

Libraries can use RSS feeds for maintaining the top stories in online newspapers and magazines.

Thing 8

Thing 8 - RSS Feeds has me stumped. I am reading the tutorials and following along signing up for more things than I really want to all in an attempt to learn how to make a little RSS feed icon. I think that I am missing the point. I am receiving Google Alerts - Headline news in my email; however, that is not what I was trying to accomplish. Can anyone help me? P-l-e-a-s-e?

Thank you!!
